If you are visiting Jaffna you can find different kinds of accommodation facilities like hotels, lodges and private homes that can suit your financial position. The cheapest accommodation is offered through the Jaffna lodges.

These lodges are built for common people who are travelling to Jaffna for a short visit for business or official works.

In the Jaffna district many cheap priced lodges available and most of them are located around Jaffna town which you can select for your stay.

Most of them offer common bath rooms for gents and ladies separately. They usually provide a clean bed, a table and a chair with a ceiling fan only and no A/C facility will be available in these cheap lodges. Ask the manager whether they can provide you with mosquito net to protect you from the dangerous fever carrying mosquitoes. Other wise cover you well with blankets to protect you from their bites. There you can order meals and beverages in a small canteen if the lodge is big enough to accommodate plenty people. Other wise you can tell the bell boy to buy your food from a nearest road side restaurant.

Also out of Jaffna town you can find small lodges where 3/4 people have to share one room with separate beds. These beds may not be comfortable for foreigners. Specially their bath rooms and Asian style toilets are fitted separately from your room and are shared by all the visitors.

While you are staying in Jaffna you can get bottled mineral water bottle in small or big size fro m the lodges or from nearby shops. Also all kind of internationally reputed mineral drinks too available in bottle and cans. Biscuits are too safe to use with out any fear. But never forget to check the expiry dates on the products to be sure that they are good to consume.

When selecting food first ask the local people whether it contains hot chilies as most of the foreigners can't stand the hot taste and it will make your face as red and you will start to sweat a lot on the head. If you happened eat hot chilies, get some sugar and put in your mouth and then drink a cup of milk to get little relief from that hot chilies effect.

Inside your lodge you can find a TV in the common place and enjoy it as you don't have any night time entertainment facility in Jaffna town.
Or you can go for an Indian Tamil movie at a nearby movie hall which don't have A/C but will have adequate ventilation through electric fans.

You can make international calls from your lodge or from a nearby communication center. First ask their calling rate per minute as it may vary from place to place.

For transport you can find the trishaw that stands next to your lodge or use public transporting busses. When hiring the trishaw it is better to hire it for with the return trip fare as they used to charge you with it.
