Hotels In Jaffna.

Jaffna town is not a well developed city like Colombo or Kandy but it offers a lot of things that may interest yourself are there. It consists of a publc Market, hospital, bus stand and most of the banks are located near to each other, as all in one location surrounded by narrow streets where people, cars, buses, three wheelers, motorcycles and bicycles are rushing in and out.

There are plenty of accomodation facilies available in and around the Jaffna Town. Many of the lodges are not registered with the authorities even though they operate as a registered one.

Some decent hotels are inside or very near to the Jaffna town center. While other hotels are located near by small towns and villages. Hotels in Jaffna uses 220 V electricity form the government supply line. Most of the hotels have their own electricity generators for stand by use when there is power interruption from the main grid. Water is taken from the deep well and is good for drinking too. If you are too much concerned about you and your family, you can buy bottled mineral water in 5, 1, 0.5 lit size at reasonable price from the hotel or near its vicinity.

If you used to use shoes be prepared to polish it yourself as there are no professional; shoe polishers available there.

Quick laundry service including dry cleaning is available. Amusement parks, Gym or tennis courts are not available.

Most of the hotels are built to cater business men and Sri Lankan expatriates who use to come and visit their relatives.

If you are bringing children along with you let them bring their own game consoles and books. Some hotels offer TV sets in their rooms and most of them are equipped with cable channels and/or satellite channels.

While some of them do provide breakfast and the price is included in the room tariff. All of them serve Sri lankan lunch and dinner at extra price which is very cheap when compared to European standards.Fresh seafood, vegfetables, fruits and dairy products are freely available throught the district.

Most of the hotels offer A/C and non A/C rooms. If the room is not an A/C one you can expect ceiling fan to be available in your room. You may ask for extra bed or mats and pillows for young children. Some of these hotels offer swimming pools too but not good for deep diving.

Always carry your identification papers with you as there may be security checks in the day time and night time in and around the city. The authorities are very friendly and with courtesy.

Sri Lanka is using right hand drive like wise Jaffna too following it. But most of the vehicles and motor cycles used to travel on the center of the road to avoid accidents. Specially when the schools are closed at noon the bicycle traffic will be so jamming one. Some time 4, 5 cycles will come in parallel while all the riders will be talking to each others. So don't be confused about the traffic.
