Nallur Murugan Kovil Festival 2024.

Nallur Kandaswamy Temple Annual Festival in this year 2024 will be celebrated for 25 days. Preparations for the Annual Festival will be arranged jointly by the Nallur Temple Authorities and the Jaffna Municipal Council/ Nallur festival used to take place on the sixth day following the "Aadi Amavasi Viratham" day. People who want to attend the Nallur Temple can plan their journey to get there in time. Sri Lanka is recovering from its economic collapse. Traveling, Accommodation and the meal prices had gone up due to current economical situation. During the festival season, the footwear keepers may request Rs 100/- per pair from the tourists. In the meantime during festival days, if you want to go near to the parading deity, men are requested not to wear shirts or T-shirts. Temple Authorities expect visitors to come in with Hindu traditional dresses.

Under the Nallur Murugan Kovil Festival, Nallur temple authorities used to welcome the Jaffna municipal council authorities to participate in the festival. Jaffna Municipal council used to prepare the festival roads, lighting and to assist the devotees with their health. During the festival time, all the roads around the Nallur temple are restricted for vehicle movements. Security personal used to be deployed to catch pick pocketers and the Gold jewel snatchers around the temple complex.

Traveling to Nallur Temple Festival.

Train Service.
Currently Jaffna Train Service used to stop at Anuradhapurs and Mahava Railway Staions. Jaffna Colombo Train Service will resume direct service by June 2024.
Normally Colombo - Jaffna A/C Express Train ticket price is Rs 3,200/- . Tickets can be reserved 30 days prior to your travel date. NIC / Passport is Required to make reservation of the train seat. (Sri Lanka Railway unions used to go on sudden strikes)
Yarldevi Train ticket price A/C Rs 2,800/- Second Class Rs 1,900/-.
In addition on weekends Yal Nile Express train will operate on Jaffna Colombo route.( First Class Rs 4,000/-, Second Class Rs 3,000/- and Third Class is Rs 2,000/-)
Two trains with the name as Vavuniya Intercity and Vavuniya Night mail too will operate up to Jaffna.
Special Tourist Train Yal Nila from Colombo. Ticket Price: Rs 4,000/- (Departure at 10:00pm from Fort Railway station.

Colombo - Jaffna, Luxury BUS ticket price is between Rs 3,000/- up to Rs 4,000/- perhead.
Private Jaffna Express busses will start from Wellawatte, Moratuwa, Kotahene and from Colombo Central Bus Stand.
These busses will start from from Jaffna New Pus Stand Located at Muneeswaran Temple Road from 8:00 PM up to 9:00 pm.

Also flight service from Colombo BIA and Ratmalana Airports are available to Jaffna (Palaly) Airport. Oneway ticket price from Rs 22,000/-
Cinnamon Air, every Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday to Jaffna Airport from BIA.
